IBAN generator and validator

Generate test IBANs with a valid structure and MOD-97 check digits for 42 countries, and validate and break down a pasted IBAN. They are test data: they do not check national check digits or that the account exists. Everything happens in your browser.

Nothing is stored or sent to any server.

This tool generates test IBANs and validates the ones you paste. Pick one of the 42 countries, press Generate and you get an IBAN with the BBAN structure and the correct MOD-97 check digits for that country, ready to copy without spaces. In the other panel, paste an IBAN with or without spaces and in lowercase: it tells you whether it is valid or the exact reason it fails, and breaks it down into country, check digits, BBAN and, when the country defines them, bank, branch and account. It is handy for testing forms and payment gateways. Everything is calculated in your browser and nothing is sent to any server.

How to use it

  1. Pick the country in the Generate panel selector; Spain is preselected.
  2. Press Generate to create a test IBAN and Copy to put it on the clipboard without spaces.
  3. Paste an IBAN into the Validate panel, with or without spaces, and read whether it is valid or why it fails.
  4. Check the breakdown to see the country, check digits, BBAN and the bank, branch and account.

Frequently asked questions

Are the generated IBANs real accounts?
No. They have the structure and check digits of a valid IBAN, but they are created at random and the tool does not check that the account exists. Use them only as test data.
Why might a form reject a generated IBAN?
The tool meets the country structure and the MOD-97 check digits, but not the national check digits of the account, such as Spain's or the French RIB key. A form that checks them may reject it.
Which countries does it support?
The 42 countries in the selector, including Spain, Germany, France, Italy, Portugal, the United Kingdom and Brazil. It does not cover the whole IBAN registry.
Which errors does the validator detect?
Unknown or unsupported country, wrong length for that country, characters that are not allowed, a wrong BBAN structure and wrong check digits.
